Don’t write off China. Why? It arguably represents one of the largest sources of new capital for private equity as Chinese investors are only just beginning to throw their weight around. As Mounir Guen told us at SuperInvestor in November, some Chinese pension funds are ten times the size of their Western counterparts with only 1% allocation to alternatives.
Access to funds is a problem for LPs seeking to gain exposure to this market – but this may be more of an issue for the larger investors.
However, as Moose reminded us:
“Outside the United States and outside Europe, the only country that has $5 billion funds – or even $3.5 billion and above – is China…the absorption capability, and the dynamic, is quite extreme.”
We look forward to discussing this more on our panel, Emerging Markets Titans, on Wednesday 24 February 2016 at SuperReturn International 2016. You can hear more from Moose then.
