How will shipping change to meet changing demands?

Christopher Rex, Head of Research, Danish Ship Finance

“I think the whole digitalisation effort bring us closer to the consumers and understand what the consumer needs is vital here. But as to my understanding it collides with the super large vessels, because super large vessels are relatively inflexible. So all the flexibility we’d like to give to consumers is a bit restrained by the supersize of the vessels. It’s a big concern for the liner companies in the years to come how to increase service and how to increase digitalisation for these large vessels.”

Niklas Holck, Managing Director, Costamare Shipping Company

“I think the different players in the industry need to think more in terms of customer journeys. They need to organise it in a way where they can collaborate better both internally and externally. It sounds a little bit fluffy, but if you look at the most successful companies in the world, these are the ones that have been able to really leverage the digital to give themselves a competitive advantage. I think it’s inevitable that the same thing will have to happen in shipping.”
