Are you ready? - Five weeks to go until NGON and Optical DCI Europe 2017

With only five weeks to go and some exciting new features added to this year’s edition of NGON and Optical DCI Europe – including Oxford style debates, the NGON Awards, a Photonics café and a few live polling sessions – we are delighted to share with you what our  advisory board are looking forward to at the event next month, and how the 2017 programme will assist attendees in solving their “burning problems” (Anuradha Udunuwara) as well as providing you with numerous networking opportunities.

In the words of Brad Booth, principal engineer at Microsoft:

“NGON and ODCI 2017 provides attendees with the ability to listen to and interact with data centre operators and vendors that are driving the next level of changes in the industry.

The topics this year cover market analysis, debates on technologies and insights into industry trends. These topics will permit delegates to gain insight and understanding of what is driving the trends, and to interact with those influencing the trends.”

Tim Doiron, Global technology leader and evangelist, ACG Research, also shared his thoughts and highlighted how the event facilitates the industry coming together and discussing key current issues in different formats throughout the two-day gathering of NGON and ODCI 2017:

“I personally find that the intimate setting of the NGON and Optical DCI conference facilitate a lot of one-on-one and personal engagement. Presenters are accessible and follow-up conversations occur quite easily and naturally. I appreciate the format variety which includes presentations, panel debates and the addition of Oxford style debates this year where one group will take a position and another will take a counter position and make their best arguments.

Attendees have many opportunities to engage directly in Q&A sessions, lunchtime topics and real-time survey participation with live results including the Data Centre Interconnect session I am hosting on Wednesday.

Like much of our industry, optical networking and data centre interconnect use cases are undergoing significant transformation. Service providers are under increasing pressure to deliver advanced services and revenue streams while also minimizing capital and operational costs.

Advances in Coherent optical transmission technology continue to push the throughput envelope with introduction of 400Gb/s single-wavelength and beyond DWDM solutions. Optical disaggregation looks to enable the independent evolution of optical transmission and optical switching of previously vertically integrated solutions.

Software defined networking (SDN) and the increasing use of open source software are accelerating time to market for new solutions while also bringing the agile optical underlay to life to make transmission capacity available rapidly when and where it is needed in the network. All of these topics and more are on the agenda for NGON 2017. Hope to see you there.”

Highlighting the calibre of attendees and the relevance of the NGON and Optical DCI to the industry Anuradha Udunuwara, Sri Lanka Telecom PLC, pointed:

“When it comes to operator/service provider optical network conferences, there’s not much out of them, the one that happens in Nice is the best, in terms of the mix of topics, operators and vendors. Bringing in Optical DCI, for me, is the best thing that ever happened to NGON.

I’ve been a speaker at the Nice event for the last 2 years and I’ve also been a speaker at the NGON and ODCI events in the US, Africa and Asia, so I know by experience that it’s worth the time and money spent.”

How this year’s conference agenda for NGON and Optical DCI will address the key trends and topics being discussed by the industry?

Anuradha added: “telco digital transformation, bringing in SDN/NFV to optical domain, further improving optical communications to address the ever increasing transport capacity requirements with keeping the DCI as integral part of the whole thing pretty much completes this year’s agenda. You can be part of the discussion and surely find solutions for some of your burning problems; like the role of T-SDN in shaping your digital transformation, what components to be used and what their capabilities, how to make your investments and technologies today, futuristic and most importantly how to monetize the investments fast.”
