In our Innovation Interview series, we recently caught up with Carla V. Luciani, Ph.D., Associate Engineering Advisor at Eli Lilly & Co., who shared why creating a culture of innovation is so important these days, and why execution is key to innovation.
Why is execution key when it comes to innovation?
Some people think innovation is entirely about the ideas, when delivery, people, and processes are perhaps the most important pieces. Companies looking to innovate need to address the execution challenge to remain competitive. Great ideas go nowhere without proper execution.
Why is a creating a culture of innovation important today?
While innovation seem to flourish across startups, research indicates that some of the most important technological challenges can only be solved by established corporations. Moreover, establish companies will only survive if they foster an innovative atmosphere.
What is the biggest innovation of 2018?
I believe real innovation is a process and it usually takes more than one year to see the results… so, it is really hard to pinpoint what is the biggest innovation of 2018. However, I do believe A.I. will change the way many companies work… and research started showing that the next scientific breakthrough may be assisted by machines!
What do you think will be the biggest innovation of 2019?
I am an engineer… my personal bias tells me it is related to a machine or the outcome of digitalization.
What are you most excited for at BEI this year?
This is a great opportunity to learn different approaches to back end innovation and to connect to people with similar goals.
