Offshore Pipeline Awards 2017 Shortlist Announced

On the back of a great response we are delighted to announce the shortlisted entries for the 2017 Offshore Pipeline Awards.

TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AWARD

This award will be presented to a company or individual that has developed an innovative technology solution that benefits the offshore pipeline industry through enhanced capability, cost reduction, increased efficiency or improved environmental practice and safety.

The shortlisted companies for this awards are;

ShawCor nominated for NEMO Hybrid Field Joint Coating

To address material cracking during the reeling process, Shawcor has introduced its NEMO Hybrid Field Joint Coating. The Hybrid Field Joint consists of an hour glass shaped layer of Injection-Molded Polypropylene (IMPP) insulation coating to approximately 30mm thickness, which acts as a heat barrier. This is followed by NEMO 1.1 infill to complete the body of the field joint and achieving the ductility needed during reeling, without creating added stress in the parent coating. This solution underwent rigorous installation (using reel vessel) and subsea operation testing. This is a technically, operationally and commercially viable solution which fits in with existing footprint on the spoolbase without increasing cycle time of the process. It has been successfully deployed this year in Gulf of Mexico for a major operator.

STATS Group nominated for Subsea BISEP™, Hot Tapping and Plugging

The introduction of the BISEP™ to the subsea market has revolutionise how subsea hot tap installed isolations are conducted, providing true double block and bleed isolation to the market, providing the highest level of safety for divers and protection to the environment. As standards regarding the safety of personnel, infrastructure and the environment increases across the industry, the demand for the subsea BISEP™ will continue to grow. The ability to provide high integrity, temporary isolation barriers offer operators significant benefits. Lengthy decommissioning and recommissioning of entire subsea pipelines can be minimised or eliminated, increasing safety, reducing out of service time and loss of revenue.

LIFE-TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

This award will be presented in recognition of an individual’s outstanding long-term contribution throughout the course of their career in the pipeline industry through leadership, innovation and providing inspiration to others.

The shortlisted individuals for this awards are;

Professor Andrew Palmer, Bold Island Engineering (Singapore) Pte Ltd Andrew Palmer has divided his career equally between practice as a consulting engineer and university teaching, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He was formerly with R.J. Brown and Associates and then with Andrew Palmer and Associates. He was Research Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Cambridge University in England until 2005, a Visiting Professor at Harvard University in 2002-2003, and from 2006 until 2015 a Professor in the Center for Offshore Research and Engineering of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore He is the author of five books and more than 270 papers on pipelines, offshore engineering, ice and Geotechnics. He has an active consulting and expert witness practice.

Dr Roberto Bruschi, Saipem Ltd Roberto graduated in Aeronautical Engineering, currently in Saipem as Vice President of Advanced Engineering Services & Technology Innovation Projects.  Roberto joined Snamprogetti in 1980 as specialist in numerical modelling development and project analysis for offshore structures.  For more than three decades, Roberto has held the positions of advanced project studies responsible, technical manager, project manager and project director in R&D projects and a number of complex cross country and subsea pipeline engineering and construction projects, particularly in the Mediterranean and the North Sea.  Roberto is author and co-author of more than 200 technical papers, as well as lecturer in offshore and pipeline technology.

Ralf Peek, Peek Solutions Ralf Peek started his career in the nuclear industry, performing what nowadays is called structural reliability assessment (SRA).  He was with Shell in the Netherlands for 22 years most recently as Principal Engineer in Pipeline Integrity, dealing with both design issues where special challenges are involved, such as high-temperature and pressure flowlines (inventing the "ZRB" triggers for lateral buckles), and the design of subsea pipelines in arctic regions, but also with integrity issues during operation.  Ralf recently founded Peek Solutions, an independent consulting company which provides pipeline integrity solutions and assurance support to the energy industry, including the application of structural reliability methods to assess and ensure integrity.

We wish all the nominees the best of luck, and the awards will be presented at the 40th anniversary event later this month in Amsterdam. For 40 years, OPT has been bringing together the leading players in the global offshore pipeline industry to network, debate and share ideas.  2017 will be no exception with:
