Trade and technology will be focus of 2019 World Ethanol & Biofuels conference

On the 5th – 7th November, more than 500 leading players from the US, Europe, Asia, South America and Africa will be returning to Brussels to take part in the most influential global biofuels event, the World Ethanol & Biofuels conference.

The conference will convene at a time when the European ethanol industry is unsure about the degree of support it can expect from policy makers following changes in trade terms with the US and Mercosur. US producers are also struggling in the face of surplus production, trade barriers and exemptions for small refiners.

“This is a challenging time for the biofuels industry, but it’s also a moment of opportunity,” said Sugar & Ethanol Series Director Michael Grech. “The World Ethanol & Biofuels conference will provide a platform for ethanol and biofuels stakeholders from around the world to discuss the market outlook and move the industry forwards.”

The conference agenda will focus on delivering market growth through more widespread adoption of E10 and higher blend rates. It will also provide opportunities for discussion about the appropriate balance between free trade principles and policies designed to safeguard domestic production in producing regions.

Sessions will address the major regulatory drivers for ethanol consumption around the world, including Brazil’s RenovaBio programme, China’s E10 push and the Renewable Energy Directive II in the European Union.

Additionally, 2019’s World Ethanol & Biofuels conference will discuss how technological solutions can improve the industry’s profitability and sustainability credentials, with presentations and panel discussions covering carbon capture in biorefineries, aviation biofuels performance, advancements in second generation biofuels production techniques and more.

Attendees also have the option to attend one of two summit days, both taking place on November 7th.

Summit days:

  • New for 2019 – Molasses and Sugar Beet Pulp Markets Summit: a one-day add-on event focused on maximising profits from sugar industry by-products.
  • Distillers Grains & Co-Product Diversification Summit: a one-day add-on event focused on improving DDGS yields and delivering greater value to the animal feed market.
