With three weeks until Apps World Europe begins it’s time to dig out those free email passes you registered for earlier in the year, underline the date in the diary, and for us to remind you of the top ten unmissable moments we have planned for you at Apps World Europe (and how they won’t cost you a penny)...
1) The chance to see the legend that is Steve Wozniak
We have a great line-up of speakers for you at Apps World Europe but we are unashamedly boasting about your chance to hear the legend that is Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak who will address the crowd with his day two fireside chat as part of the Developer track. In an interview with Wired.co.uk editor Nate Lanxon Wozniak will share his experiences as a Silicon Valley icon as well as his views of the market today and the opportunities for the future. But it’s not just your opportunity to learn – he is eager to meet you too! In an interview with Apps World Europe last week Wozniak said he was excited to be attending the show to see the latest innovation. “ hoping to see some new technology ideas that I wasn’t aware of before, but usually I get turned on more by the people, what they’re talking about, what they’re interested in,” he says.
2) See the future at three hackfest hackathons
Given Wozniak’s desire to learn something new it’s quite possible we may see him at the three Hackfests taking place at Apps World Europe. Dedicated Auto, Apps and TV Hackfests will see developers compete for prizes and push the boundaries of what is possible in a fun filled, learning environment which is sure to deliver some great new ideas. You can either take part yourself or simply come and watch the hackers in action.
To take part you can register here for free.
3) Learn about innovation and investment from Brent Hoberman
With his history of backing and co-founding innovative businesses you can’t afford to miss former Lastminute co-founder and CEO Brent Hoberman’s appearance as part of a day one panel within Developer World. Sitting in a morning panel session that looks at creating a successful app business and how to get the investment backing you require Hoberman will be joined by two apps businesses, yPlan and Moves, that have already caught his eyesince he co-founded PROfounders – an early stage fund backed by entrepreneurs for digital entrepreneurs in 2009.
4) Play the game with Trip Hawkins in Gaming World keynote
Any gaming developer should naturally be in awe of Electronic Arts Founder Trip Hawkins. He did, after all, after an initial stint at Apple, form part of the biggest gaming revolution in history with the founding of video game publisher Electronics Arts, followed by video game console company 3D0 and later a new handheld video game development company called Digital Chocolate. The games lover will be discussing the future of apps in the context of cultural change and disruptive products on the morning of day one.
5) See the future with Google Glass and Twitter
After the hype surrounding Google Glass earlier this year developers are hungry to understand how they can work with the technology and develop for it and will learn how to at Apps World Europe’s Droid World when Google’s principal architect Grant Allen explains more about the opportunities available for developers in his keynote session at Droid World.
Similarly Twitter’s director of engineering Jeff Seibert will also be providing hints and tips on how to get the most out of your app development process.
6) The chance to meet the apps giants of today and promote yourself as the giant of tomorrow
Apps World focusses on the giants of the apps ecosystem but we also recognise the importance of supporting up and coming businesses too, and as such have this year introduced three new opportunities for such businesses and individuals to both see and be seen at the show. These include the Big Indie Pitch (a speed networking event with press), the Going Mobile showcase event where you will get to quiz successful independent developers and the Indie Game Zone – a showcase area of start-ups. We will also have a general Start-up Village for which the chance to exhibit yourself is free if you quality. Opportunities are still available.

The Tech World stream offers an interactive chance to really get to grips with the latest in technology and technology thinking in a series of back to back technical talks in a closed classroom style that will ensure you really do leave with the skills you need to be the best in your field.

Apps World Europe is an intense event for learning and networking– with 12 conference streams in total, five of which are free – we wouldn’t argue otherwise. But such events are also about having a chance to relax and take in the general vibe of a conference dedicated to the mobile and apps ecosystem. As such we will have two themed bars for you to hang out in – the Parse Bar and the Slashdot Bar as well as a cool graffiti wall where artists will leave their mark at the show.
