Apps and technology are breathing new life into the retail market and start-ups are key

Apps and technology are breathing new life into the retail world and the buying experience, and as younger, more agile retailers can adopt new technology faster, start-ups are increasingly at the heart of the future of innovative retailing.

At Apps World North America there will, for the first time ever, be an entire track dedicated to the retail market, as well as retailers speaking in related tracks including Mobile Strategy & Marketing and Mobile Payments & NFC.

Start-ups will play a key role in the conference content agenda as well as exhibiting in specialist start-up villages at the show too - including a Retail and Food zone.

We have a number of retail start-ups already confirmed for the show, including three who will be presenting together during the one-day retail track on Monday 31 March, to help inspire you with what they have been doing. Senior executives from TheFind, Shopular  and Thirdlove will be showcasing their three mobile retail apps at 12pm. Below we find out a bit more about them:

TheFindRamneek Bhasin, vice president and general manager, mobile for TheFind will be presenting the companion mobile shopping app that has been described as being like a giant digital shopping mall. The app learns your preferences the more you shop through it, narrowing its searches to present more and more relevant product as it does so from more than 500 million products from 500,000 stores. The app keeps tabs on your browsing history, allowing it to create and present personalised results for your favourite stores and brands as well as comparing prices between retailers to get the best price online or scan a barcode and price match instore. Online searches, purchases, receipts and shipping information can also be saved and organised, allowing for a more logical shopping process whilst in app storing of credit card details means checkout is even easier.

ShopularNavneet Loiwal, co-founder and CEO of Shopular and a former co-founder of Google Finance will be talking about his Shopular app, which alerts shoppers in the US to deals via their mobile and alerts via push notifications when they are near a store with a deal. With coupon shopping and discounting now a standard feature of shopping online being able to collate such deals is vital, and the app, which launched last year, allows shoppers to do that. Facebook Connect helps the app learn your preferences whilst shoppers can also go into settings to indicate their favourite stores. Like TheFind the app becomes smarter through use.

Thirdlove – Although there’s nothing new about luxury lingerie brands, one where you can size yourself with your mobile from the comfort of your own home is exciting the market since its official launch last month. The new three step service allows shoppers to measure themselves in five minutes using the company’s computer vision technology and their mobile. Its unique sizing system, which gives twice the options of normal bra fitting, more closely matches customer needs and allows shoppers to then shop a curated collection of ThirdLove designed bras on their mobile, specific to their ThirdLove sizing and with the option to customise to suit. An Android version of the app is in development and we will be excited to welcome co-founder Heidi Zak for an uplifting talk about how the new technology is changing the lingerie market.

To hear TheFind, Shopular  and Thirdlove presenting their start-up apps at Apps World North America in the retail track book a one day pass for the retail track for an advance discounted rate of $700 or upgrade to a two day, full access gold pass for a discounted rate of $1,350 until 10 January.
